Canterbury Museum has exhibits for all ages to enjoy.
The Māori galleries display treasures and tools from Canterbury’s first people. You can view the skeletons of giant moa that once roamed Canterbury and were hunted by Māori.
You’ll see more than 1,000 pāua shells on the walls world-famous Kiwiana icon Fred & Myrtle’s Pāua Shell House, originally located in Bluff (southern New Zealand).
Wander down a replica nineteenth-century Christchurch street, complete with a horse for children to ride. A great photo opportunity!
Regular special New Zealand and international exhibitions are often on display.
Children will love learning about the natural wonders of the world in their very own area, Discovery.
Museum Store and Café onsite. Museum tours run daily at 2.00 pm; book online or at the Museum.

Opening hours: Daily except Christmas Day. 9am to 5pm (April – September), 9am to 5.30pm (October – March).
